The Sullivan County Legislature has determined that the installation, repair and improvement of electrical services and wiring in residential and commercial structures is a unique occupation requiring experience and skills not commonly required by persons performing other occupations. The improper installation repair and improvement of electrical wiring may create hazardous conditions for the occupants and community. The County Legislature finds the licensing of electricians is a fair and effective method to protect the public. The Board of Electrical Licensing of Sullivan County has been formed to insure the directives of the Sullivan County Legislature are followed.
Electrical work in Sullivan County must be performed by a licensed Sullivan County Electrician
Sullivan County has Reciprocal Agreements with regard to obtaining a one-time temporary license with the following:
Greene County, NY
City of Kingston, NY
City of Poughkeepsie, NY
City of Binghamton, NY
City of Troy, NY
City of Newburgh, NY
ELECTRICAL LICENSING FEE SCHEDULE
ANNUAL LICENSES
MASTER - $200
LIMITED - $100
JOURNEYMAN - $100
SPECIAL - $50
INACTIVE – SAME FEE AS ANNUAL LICENSE FEE ABOVE
NEW APPLICATIONS REQUIRE A $30.00 APPLICATION FEE
TEMPORARY ONE TIME JOB LICENSE WITH RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT - $300.00 (NO APPLICATION FEE)

Approved Master Electrical Applicants will be required to take an exam through ICC/Pearson Vue testing company.
