County Purchases Broadway Office Building

518 Broadway, Monticello

Monticello, NY – The former home of Middletown Medical and other doctors’ offices is now owned by the County of Sullivan and will be transformed into the Board of Elections’ new quarters.

Located at 518 Broadway in the heart of downtown Monticello, the 6,800-square-foot, single-story office complex has long served as a medical arts building, but its open floorplan makes it suitable for housing both the relocated Board of Elections and the County’s electronic voting machines.

“We were seeking a solution that would alleviate overcrowded offices at the Government Center but not be too far away,” explained County Manager Josh Potosek. “I’m happy to say we found that solution in a solidly built facility within walking distance of the Government Center, fronting the busy Broadway corridor, and right next door to the Village of Monticello’s largest municipal parking lot.”

The $655,000 purchase – utilizing pre-existing tobacco settlement funds, not taxpayer monies – was completed on Wednesday, and renovations are expected to begin shortly. The Board of Elections should be relocated to that structure by next year.

“The County is growing, and we’re growing along with it. This will allow us to not only provide a much-needed expansion of space for the Board of Elections but also the Veterans Service Agency and the Office for the Aging – three of the busiest offices in County government,” remarked District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello, chair of the Legislature’s Public Works Committee. “The Veterans Service Agency will move into the more spacious current quarters of the Board of Elections in the Government Center, after which the Office for the Aging will essentially double their space by expanding into the adjacent Veterans Service Agency footage.”
