Monticello, NY - On September 25, 2024, Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty announced that Jacob McCoy, 50, of Monticello, was sentenced to the maximum of nine years’ incarceration in State prison to be followed by two-years of post-release supervision by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell upon McCoy’s convictions of two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Class B felonies.
These convictions were announced on July 17, 2024, after a three-day jury trial whereby the jury found that on November 28, 2023, McCoy possessed over two-ounces of the narcotic drug fentanyl with the intent to sell it. This case was prosecuted at trial by District Attorney Conaty with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Halley Hiatt. McCoy was represented by attorney Matthew Mahan.
Conaty stated the following: “This maximum sentence allowed by law reflects our community’s commitment to stop the free-flow of fentanyl onto our streets that has disproportionately ravaged Sullivan County. Since taking the helm of the District Attorney’s Office I have made it our mission to end this scourge once and for all. I, again, want to thank the Sullivan County Jury for their attention and dedication to this case as well as the members of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office Investigators for their dedicated efforts to bring the defendant to justice.”
