Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office and the Legislature announce that the repurchase period for tax-foreclosed properties has begun.
“This is one of the last opportunities – before the September tax auction – for property owners to regain ownership,” County Treasurer Nancy Buck notes. “Since we want people to keep their homes and properties, the terms are very simple: through June 30, 2024, taxpayers need only to pay all of the delinquent property taxes, up to and including 2024. Absolutely no penalties or fees will be added on. After June 30, the County will turn over the property to the tax auction company and the amount to repurchase property will be significantly higher.”
The last day to repurchase properties is August 23, 2024.
District 3 Legislator Brian McPhillips, who chairs the Legislature’s Management & Budget Committee, explains: “Repurchasing properties after July 1 will cost more, so I urge taxpayers to get in touch now with the Treasurer’s Office. We’ll work with anyone who’s making a sincere effort to pay what they owe and redeem their properties.”
Notices are enroute to the former property owners at this time, and include information on how to repurchase properties. To learn more, property owners and their representatives are welcome to call the Treasurer’s Office at 845-807-0200 or email to taxes@sullivanny.us.
