Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency proudly presents a “Valentines for Vets” exhibit in the lobby of the County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello.
Every year, local students create special Valentine’s Day cards to brighten the lives of veterans.
Last year thanks to the efforts of teachers and students, more than 2,000 valentines were delivered to hospitalized veterans at the VA Medical Centers in Castle Point and Albany.
A selection of those Valentine cards will be on display from Tuesday, February 13 through Friday, February 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. as part of the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week.
“Our veterans can often find themselves far away from home long after they’ve returned from overseas duty,” notes District 3 Legislator Mark McCarthy, who chairs the Legislature’s Veterans Committee. “These hospital visits, while necessary, can lead to loneliness and sadness, so let me tell you – every one of the Valentine’s Day cards they receive is read and cherished. Knowing the young people of our County and nation care for these men and women brightens their day, and I am ever grateful to our Veterans Service Agency for annually coordinating this uplifting display of care and compassion.”
