Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling is pleased to announce that Sullivan County residents recycled approximately 445,000 pounds of electronic scrap in 2017 – that’s almost 6 pounds for every man, woman and child living in the County. This is a significant accomplishment, because there are many hazards in electronic devices that are removed and reclaimed during the recycling process.
As a reminder, we accept a variety of electronics at our County-operated transfer stations located in Monticello, Ferndale, Mamakating, Highland, Rockland and Cochecton, including Televisions, Computers & Peripherals, Scanners, Cable/Satellite Boxes, Displays/Monitors/Cathode Ray Tubes, Laptops, Tablets, VCRs, Disc Players, Fax Machines, and Consumer Batteries.
Effective March 1, 2018, there will be a nominal charge of $15 for CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) televisions and computer monitors. All other electronic items will continue to be accepted for free. Commercial electronics are not accepted.
District 7 Legislator & Public Works Committee Chairman Joseph Perrello said, “The electronics recycling program has been a success story for the County and has been offered for free for many years. We believe that the small charge for certain electronics is a fair improvement to this program and will make it sustainable over time.”
