Recycling Presentations Available to Community Groups

Monticello, NY –The Sullivan County Department of Solid Waste and Recycling invites civic groups, libraries, businesses and public service organizations to take advantage of a free recycling lecture series.

Nationwide, recyclable and compostable materials make up almost three-quarters of the trash sent to landfills for disposal each year. Making more productive use of these materials is a top priority, since garbage exported and buried in landfills requires lots of fuel to transport, generates greenhouse gases and costs money to manage properly.

One way to help protect the environment in Sullivan County is to recycle and compost as much as possible. Thus the Department of Solid Waste and Recycling is pleased to offer recycling education services and compost information to Sullivan County residents, businesses and civic groups.

“Recycling, waste reduction & composting save not just money but also the environment of Sullivan County,” states District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello, chair of the Legislature’s Public Works Committee. “More recycling & composting means less garbage that residents, businesses and visitors have to throw away. I encourage community groups to schedule a free workshop/presentation soon to help us share this important news with residents and businesses.”

To request a presentation and for additional information about composting, waste reduction, household hazardous chemicals, recycling and reuse, please contact the Department of Solid Waste & Recycling at 845-807-0290 or visit sullivanny.us/Departments/SolidWasteRecycling.
