Swan Lake, NY – Following last year’s inaugural outing, the Sullivan County Emergency Services Youth Academy will be returning July 21-25, 2025.
“Our first Academy was an outstanding and exciting success, introducing local teens to the huge array of methods and equipment our firefighters, EMTs, and police officers utilize,” notes Sullivan County Public Safety Commissioner Scott Schulte. “We’ve upped our game for this year, and the invitation is out for teens to spend a week with us that they will never, ever forget!”
Open to Sullivan County 14-16-year-olds, the Emergency Services Youth Academy is a weeklong, immersive tour of the people, policies and practices behind emergency response. Participants will spend five days gaining in-depth, hands-on knowledge about drones, search & rescue techniques, firefighting, 911 dispatch, tactical law enforcement vehicles, helicopters, ambulances, bomb disposal methods, K-9 units and more. They’ll also become certified in CPR and first aid.
Enrollment is free, with the only commitment being consistent attendance that Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Lunch will be provided.) Hosted by the Division of Public Safety in collaboration with multiple local emergency response agencies, the Academy will be held at the Emergency Operations Center in Swan Lake, near the County Airport.
