Warming Centers Reactivated

Monticello, NY – In anticipation of a return to severe cold temperatures, County Manager Josh Potosek announced today that both the Monticello and Liberty warming centers will be operational later this weekend.

“While warmer temperatures are a relief, they’ll prove to be short-lived,” Potosek noted. “Sullivan County will soon be back to subzero weather and brutally cold wind chills.”

The Liberty United Methodist Church, located at 120 North Main Street, will open at noon on Sunday, January 14, while the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center on Jefferson Street in Monticello will open at 8 p.m. that same day. Both will stay open day and night at least through Tuesday, January 16: Liberty till noon that day, Monticello till 8 a.m.

During daytime hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays), the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless at 9 Monticello Street offers food and warmth, as well.

In addition, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) – which can provide funds for fuel and heating system repair/replacement – continues Countywide, including aid for emergency heating situations. For more information, call 845-807-0142.
