(Monticello, NY 1:15 PM) Applications are now being accepted for funding of community improvement projects through the Sullivan County PLANS & PROGRESS Small Grants Program.
The purpose of the program is to assist local municipalities and community and not-for-profit organizations throughout Sullivan County with projects related to tourism, community and economic development, image enhancement, trails development, health improvement, agricultural and farmland protection, and other county goals. 2016 projects included parks and trails improvements, preservation of historic structures, new veteran and battleground memorials, public education on “Right to Farm” communities, printing assistance for the new Sullivan County Relocation and Resource Guide, and community initiatives to fight against bullying and prevent drug abuse.
The 2017 program carries on with a streamlined contracting and reimbursement process, making administration of the program more efficient for grant recipients. These include:
• A two page application form, available as a fillable pdf to enable online submissions;
• Detailed guidance on the reimbursement process, providing instructions on what’s needed to receive funding once an award has been granted and the project is completed.
"I am very pleased the Legislature is again able to offer this grant program that has helped to enhance the social and economic vitality of our community with many wonderful projects throughout the County. I encourage eligible applicants to get their applications by the May 15, 2017 deadline,” stated Alan Sorensen, District 9 Legislator and Chairman of the Planning, Environmental Management and Real Property Committee. Applications will be reviewed periodically during the calendar year. The first round will assess all applications received by 4:00 p.m. May 15, 2017.
