Monticello, NY – Do you suspect a property in Monticello, Liberty or South Fallsburg may be contaminated by hazardous materials? Help Sullivan County’s Division of Planning & Community Development identify these sites, with the goal of cleaning up and redeveloping them.
“Contaminated properties potentially pose a threat to people, animals and vegetation, and even just the rumor of contamination can make it harder for property owners to develop or sell,” noted Planning Commissioner Freda Eisenberg. “Yet that need not be the case. The County can access brownfields grants to mitigate hazardous substances and pollutants, restoring such properties to a usable, developable state.”
District 9 Legislator Alan Sorensen, chair of the Legislature’s Planning Committee, invites all to a Community Visioning Session this Thursday, June 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the Hearing Room of the Government Center in Monticello. Funded by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant, the session will provide participants an opportunity to discuss potentially contaminated sites in the County’s urban center, discover what might be done about them, and learn how everyone can work together to redevelop the target areas.
