Hurleyville, NY – The Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville invites all to visit the Museum, free of charge, during the first annual Sullivan County Museums Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.
As part of the festivities, the Frederick Cook Society will present a free concert on Sunday the 30th, hosted by Little Sparrow. Doors open at 1 p.m., and the music starts at 2 p.m. The Frederick Cook photography exhibition in the newly renovated upstairs gallery and in the Museum auditorium will be open for viewing. And the Historical Society has several new exhibitions on display, including vintage photographs of Sullivan County communities, plus the newly renovated Judge Lawrence Cooke Gallery. The list of participating museums in Sullivan County includes:
- Basket Historical Society, Long Eddy (Upper Delaware/Town of Fremont history)
- Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, Livingston Manor (fly-fishing history and equipment)
- D&H Canal Interpretive Center, Summitville (Delaware and Hudson Canal history)
- Fort Delaware, Narrowsburg (re-creation of colonial Upper Delaware fort, paid admission)
- The Old Stone House, Hasbrouck (one of the oldest structures in Sullivan County)
- Ten Mile River Scout Museum, Narrowsburg (local Boy Scout reservation history)
- Time and the Valleys Museum, Grahamsville (NYC watershed/Town of Neversink history)
- Sullivan County Museum & Cultural Center, Hurleyville, which is home to both the Sullivan County Historical Society and the Frederick Cook Society
Each will be open for tours, and several will have special events – like the County’s D&H Canal Interpretive Center on Bova Road in Summitville, which on Sunday the 30th at 3 p.m. will feature a presentation about life on the canal.
