County Has Immediate Need for Drivers of the Elderly

Monticello, NY – With more requests than the current crop of volunteers can fulfill, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) urgently seeks additional drivers to take local senior citizens to crucial medical appointments.

“This is an invaluable service to our community but one in which we constantly struggle to maintain a level of volunteer drivers adequate to meet the demand,” RSVP Project Director Caryn Mathews stated. “Currently, we average 100+ requests a month yet can only provide drivers for about half of that.”

Human Rights Commission Issues Statement About DACA

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission supports DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and stands with New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in their suit against President Trump’s decision to end the program.

Commissioners believe, “Human rights are for everyone. There are no exceptions. We know the program is flawed and needs to be corrected to address many issues in the immigration system, but scrapping DACA is not the answer. It is cruel and inhumane to deport people whose only home is America.”
