Monticello, NY - There will be a Special Meeting of the Legislature for Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 1:00PM in the Legislative Chambers, 100 North Street, Monticello, New York. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss proposed litigation and any other business that may come before the Legislature. The Legislature will go into Executive Session to discuss the proposed litigation.

County to Intervene in Compressor Application; Proposed Water, Air, Noise Quality Study Garners Bidders

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature yesterday unanimously agreed to ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for intervenor status in the Eastern System Upgrade Project proposed by the Millennium Pipeline Company, which includes a 22,400-horsepower compressor station in the Town of Highland.

Patriots Day Is August 6, 2017 in Sullivan County

Monticello, NY – Continuing a tradition which began last year, the County of Sullivan and State of New York acknowledge August 6, 2017 as Patriots Day in Sullivan County.
The day honors local veterans of all ages and service branches, whether having served in wartime or peacetime. As noted in a proclamation from Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, the day will be marked by the Monticello Rotary’s Monster 5K/10K Run and Walk in Monticello. Funds raised will benefit veterans in need through the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition.

Sullivan County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event to Repeat July 23

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling staff and technicians from Care Environmental Corporation collected over 7,260 total pounds (3.63 tons!) of unwanted toxic substances from household generators in Sullivan County at the first of two Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection events on June 17.

238th Anniversary of Local Battle to be Commemorated

Barryville, NY - Sullivan County Historian John Conway announces that New York State Historian Devin Lander will be the keynote speaker at the annual commemoration of the Revolutionary War Battle of Minisink at the Minisink Battleground Park on Saturday, July 22.

Mr. Lander will speak about “Telling the Big Story with Local History.”

 “We are honored to have Mr. Lander join us this year,” Conway says.  “It is the first visit to Sullivan County by a State Historian in many years.”

County Revenues Climb in 2016, and 2017 Trending Similarly

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County officials were given good news today by independent auditors: County Government’s fiscal health is better than it’s been in years.

Auditor Matt Montalbo of the auditing firm of Drescher & Malecki called it a “favorable operation in 2016” while delivering his and colleague Carl Widmer’s report to legislators this morning in the Management & Budget Committee. “It has been a very positive year financially,” agreed County Treasurer Nancy Buck, whose staff worked closely with the auditing firm to ensure accurate figures.
