Health Advisory Issued About Whooping Cough Case

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Public Health Services would like to notify the public that a probable
case of pertussis (also known as whooping cough) has been identified this week in the Monticello School District.

Public Health staff has been working closely with the district and healthcare providers in the County to notify parents and to monitor and identify any additional suspected cases to ensure timely treatment and to prevent or control additional cases quickly.

Monticello, NY – As the Sullivan County Human Rights Commission pursues its mission of making the County “the best possible place to live,” they stand firm in the commitment to protect the rights of local citizens against all forms of discrimination.

Just like harassment against people because of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation/preference, marital status, or criminal conviction, sexual harassment is equally WRONG and should not be tolerated.

Sullivan County Issues Important Reminder About Safe SHARPS Disposal

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Department of Solid Waste and Recycling reminds residents that injection needles, lancets and syringes (SHARPS) MUST be disposed of properly in order to protect people from unintentional needle sticks. 

Used sharps may hold residual blood infected by HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) or Hepatitis B & C. Someone who accidentally gets cut or stuck by a used sharp could get infected from the blood.

Celebrating International Human Rights Day

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission encourages County residents to make human rights a topic for discussion with their families on International Human Rights Day this Sunday, December 10.

Crafted as a means to prevent a repeat of the atrocities experienced during the Second World War, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly nearly 70 years ago on December 10, 1948.

County Debuts Interactive, Informative Geoportal

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Director of Real Property Tax Services Ed Homenick announces the release of the County’s new Geoportal.

“This is a new tool I’m very excited to have our Office bring to the public,” Homenick affirms. “It will greatly expand and simplify the ways people can find a range of information, from tax maps to specific parcel data to natural and manmade features throughout Sullivan County.”

Budget Hearing and Adoption Meetings Moved to Thursday

Monticello, NY - Due to the inclement weather, the 2018 Tentative Sullivan County Budget Public Hearing and the Special Meeting to adopt the 2018 Budget, both scheduled for today, Tuesday, December 12, have been cancelled and rescheduled as follows:
- Thursday, December 14, at 8:45 a.m. – Public Hearing on 2018 Tentative Budget
- Thursday, December 14, at 10:55 a.m. – Special Meeting to Adopt 2018 Budget

Two Warming Centers to Open

Monticello, NY – Due to the current and forecasted bitterly cold weather, Sullivan County is opening warming centers beginning today, Wednesday, December 13 at 6 p.m. These centers will remain open through noon this Saturday, December 16.  

The warming centers will be located in Monticello at the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center at 5 Jefferson Street and in Liberty at the United Methodist Church at 170 North Main Street. Everyone is welcome to stop in and warm up, and these facilities will remain open overnight.
