Chairman Named to Statewide Public Safety Committee

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez has been appointed to the New York State Association of Counties’ (NYSAC’s) Standing Committee on Public Safety.

“NYSAC’s standing committees play an important role in helping us shape our policies and positions on legislative issues,” NYSAC President MaryEllen Odell wrote to Alvarez in a letter confirming his appointment. “Your experience and knowledge will add to the quality of our deliberations, and I hope you are able to serve.”

County Welcomes $2.5 Million in State Grants

Monticello, NY – Five long-vacant historic properties will be rehabilitated and restored as a result of three Restore NY grants secured by the Village of Liberty, the Town of Liberty, and the Town of Rockland.

On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office announced the recipients of nearly $81 million from Round 5 of the Restore New York Communities Initiative. Of the 10 awarded funding in the seven-county Mid-Hudson Region, three are in Sullivan County.

Nadia Rajsz Named to Statewide Public Employee Relations Committee

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Legislature Vice Chair Nadia Rajsz has been appointed to the New York State Association of Counties’ (NYSAC’s) Standing Committee on Public Employee Relations.

Sixth Annual Eileen Haworth Weil Scholarship Brunch Coming April 15

Monticello, NY – Eileen Haworth Weil was a tireless warrior for peace, human rights and environmental justice. For the sixth year, the Sullivan County Human Rights Commission is sponsoring the Annual Eileen Haworth Weil Scholarship Brunch to be held in Eileen’s memory. This event celebrates Eileen’s life, honors those who continue in her tradition, and awards a scholarship to students who have demonstrated an interest in human rights.

The scholarship is open to graduating Sullivan County Community College students who will pursue a four-year degree.

Time for Spring Cleaning, Sullivan County!

Monticello – The Sullivan County Legislature announces that Sullivan County’s Annual Litter Pluck will take place from Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, May 13, and all school and community groups, as well as private citizens, are urged to participate.

The County will fund the cost of the bags and the associated waste disposal fees for this event, through the County’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and the Division of Public Works.
