New Child Support Debit Card Arriving at End of This Month

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County residents using a New York State-issued debit card to receive child support payments will soon need to transfer to a new debit card.

“People can use their existing debit card until the balance reaches zero, but on March 30, 2023, deposits to that card will stop, and the new ‘Way2Go Card’ will begin accepting deposits on March 31,” explains Sullivan County Child Support Enforcement Coordinator Laura McKay.

Transfers of funds between the cards will not be allowed.

Emergency HEAP Benefits Available

Liberty, NY – New York State has announced a second Emergency HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) benefit is available, beginning February 27.

“The eligibility for this benefit is nearly the same as for the first Emergency HEAP benefit,” notes Sullivan County Deputy Social Services Commissioner Giselle Steketee. “Applicants must have exhausted – or have unavailable to them – both the original Regular benefit and the first Emergency HEAP benefit.”

Landlords Asked to Share in Survey

Liberty, NY – A new survey for local landlords will guide the County in developing a smoother process for rentals and payments.

“The Sullivan County Department of Social Services aims to better support the relationship between the Department, tenants and landlords,” notes Deputy Commissioner of Social Services Giselle Steketee. “We want to bridge that gap in communication between everyone, especially landlords.”

County Teams With BOCES to Provide Free Construction Training

Liberty, NY – Thanks to a partnership between Sullivan County’s Center for Workforce Development (CWD) and Sullivan BOCES, up to 15 local residents who want to gain basic carpentry skills can do so for free, starting this April.

“While we are fortunate to have a number of skilled contractors in our region, they struggle to find reliable, competent help to meet the demand for their services,” noted Sullivan County Legislature Vice Chair and District 3 Legislator Mike Brooks, who joined his fellow legislators this month in unanimously approving County funding for this program.
