The Department of Community Services is the Local Government Unit responsible for the development of behavioral health service plans for Sullivan County. Article 41 of the NYS Mental Hygiene Law charges the Department, in collaboration with the Community Services Board and the State disability agencies, with identifying available services and unmet needs and developing annual OASAS, OMH, OPWDD Local Government Plans. The latest versions of the local services plans for alcohol and substance use services, developmental disabilities, and mental health services are posted under the "local government plans" section of our web site.
The Department is responsible for the development of the Local government plans for the Office of Mental Health (OMH), The Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), and The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Each of these agencies have updated their way of doing business and have empowered the Department to reach out to the community to discuss the needs for individuals dealing with mental health issues, substance abuse, and/or developmental limitations.
The Department has begun to hold open forum where members of the community have been invited to have these conversations and we have vowed to make this an ongoing effort so the needs of our community are reflective in the Local Government Plans. At these forums there have been power point presentations that have been shared which give information about OASAS, OMH, and OPWDD providers in our county and their contact information.
