This program is designed to facilitate the Social Security SSI/SSD application process for disabled Temporary Assistance recipients and applicants who would have difficulty pursuing benefits on their own. The DCAP coordinator acts as a liaison to coordinate the efforts of several different agencies to ensure that clients receive appropriate benefits, as well as arranging required medical appointments and transportation. The coordinator also acts as the client's representative during the appeals process if appropriate. Eligible clients who are approved for SSI/SSD receive higher benefits than on Temporary Assistance and the local share for Temporary Assistance is reduced.
