Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force has made the following arrests:
Road Closed in Order to Repair Beaverkill Covered Bridge
Livingston Manor, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works has closed a portion of Campsite Road in the Town of Rockland to repair County Bridge 304, which was damaged by a car accident this past weekend.
Better known as the Beaverkill Covered Bridge, County Bridge 304 is a 98-foot span across the Beaverkill north of Livingston Manor and Roscoe, near Lew Beach. Recently restored, the bridge has served traffic since 1865 and is maintained by the County.

Hurleyville, NY – Hurleyville’s own Louis Wichinsky once adopted a 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit pickup truck to run on vegetable oil. Sometimes he’d even use soybean oil. (A red toggle switch on the dash changed the fuel over.)
But it was back in 1942, when he was stationed in London with the U.S. Army Air Force, that he hit upon what’s considered his greatest invention. He was spending the Jewish holidays with two brothers who owned a bakery. One of them, Sam Wolinsky, put a challenge before him: “Louis, you Yanks can do anything. How come you can’t build a bagel machine?'”

Sullivan Launches New Tax Lookup Site
Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck is pleased to announce a new way for the public to access tax records.
“We’ve worked closely with Total Collection Solution, an upstate-based company, to create and test this web-based platform,” explained Buck. “It’s a truly ‘live’ system, with real-time updating of data, including recent payments.”

Legislature Adopts 2024 County Budget
Monticello, NY – Via unanimous vote today, legislators approved the 2024 Sullivan County Budget, though not all of them were completely happy with the outcome.
The $291,024,284 budget comes with a 1.4% tax levy increase to cover an unanticipatedly high hike in health insurance costs but does not propose incurring new debt.
