Public Safety Commissioner Deploys to Fight Fires in Israel

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Public Safety Commissioner Scott Schulte knows firsthand what Israelis and Palestinians are enduring. He’s in southern Israel at this very moment.

“We’ve already had rocket attacks,” Schulte confirmed from a spot not far from the Gaza border on Friday.

The Ulster County native and firefighter has long been a member of the Emergency Volunteers Project, a disaster relief & rescue organization whose primary mission is to deploy volunteer teams to Israel in times of crisis.

Annual Public Hearing and Resource Fair Coming October 25 to Government Center

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Office for the Aging warmly invites everyone to its Annual Public Hearing and Senior Resource Fair, set for Wednesday, October 25.

“We want to make this day informative and fun, not just something we’re legally required to do,” explains Office for the Aging Director Lise-Anne Deoul. “I encourage anyone over the age of 55 to join us that day in the Government Center. It will be worth your time, I promise!”

Liberty Bridge to Be Repaved

Ferndale, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works will be repaving County Bridge 185 starting October 10. 

Located south of Ferndale, Bridge 185 carries Mongaup Road over the East Branch of the Mongaup River in the Town of Liberty. Temporary traffic signals will be set up to allow alternating single-lane traffic across the bridge. 

Estimated to last a week, the work will consist of removing the asphalt surface, placing new waterproofing membrane and repaving.
