Independent Auditors Affirm County Remains Fiscally Stable

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County’s independent auditors informed legislators Thursday that County government’s financial picture continues to be stable, based on the results of their audit of the 2022 fiscal year.

“The amount at which revenues exceeded expenditures is about $19 million,” noted Matthew Montalbo of Drescher & Malecki, a Buffalo-based accounting firm. “…In 2022, you didn’t need any type of short-term financing to operate. You’re only one year out from that, but when you look at your trends going forward, that’s right where you want to be.”

Notary Test Set for September 14, 2023

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Clerk’s Office, in conjunction with the NYS Division of Licensing Services, is offering a Notary Public Test on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Monticello Elks Lodge. The morning test has already been filled, but an afternoon test still has seats available, and a waiting list is being developed in case of last-minute openings.

Farmer's Market Coupons Now Available

Monticello, NY — The Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program provides an opportunity for eligible seniors to support local farmers and improve their health by increasing their consumption of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs.

To that end, the Office for the Aging has begun distributing Farmer’s Market Coupon booklets. Each booklet contains five (5) $5 coupons, for a total of $25. Coupons are valid through November 30, 2023 at participating Farmer’s Markets.

HEAP Cooling Applications Accepted Only Until July 14

Liberty, NY – Per New York State’s requirement, Sullivan County’s HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) Office will stop accepting Cooling Benefit applications at close of business on July 14, 2023.

The Cooling Benefit can provide eligible applicants with an air conditioner in a room in their home if they suffer from a medical condition that is made worse by extreme heat.  

New County Initiative Aims to Ensure No 'Wrong Doors'

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County, in partnership with software vendor Unite Us, is rolling out a new referral service with local healthcare providers to make it easier for people to find the help they need.

“We have 34 partner agencies already looking to join and 27 employees who have started training to use this new platform,” Health & Human Services Commissioner John Liddle said. “Our go-live goal is August 28, and I’m excited about this chance to bring our provider community closer together and make it easier for folks to access healthcare and social supports.”

Eldred Bridgework Will Close County Road for 18 Days

Eldred, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works is closing a portion of County Road 33 (Eldred-Yulan Road) in Eldred to repair County Bridge 198, located approximately 0.1 miles west of the intersection of CR 33 with State Route 55. This section of CR 33 will be closed to all traffic starting at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 20, and will remain closed for approximately 18 days.

A detour route will utilize State Route 55, State Route 97, and County Road 21.

A program of The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, CRISP helps restore and protect native environments and is turning its attention to Callicoon’s former Upper Delaware Campgrounds, which Sullivan County is developing into its newest park.

Sullivan County Budget Again Wins National Award

Monticello, NY – For the eighth time in a row, the Sullivan County Budget Office has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

A panel of judges reviewed well over 1,000 budgets submitted to the GFOA, including Sullivan County’s version for the 2023 fiscal year. They judged the budgets on their excellence as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices, deeming Sullivan’s to be “outstanding” in all four categories.
