REMINDER: Sullivan County Not Collecting School Taxes

Monticello, NY – Taxpayers should be aware that the Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office will not be collecting school taxes this November. The Sullivan County Legislature approved the change earlier this year.

“Each school district in Sullivan County has determined to end their tax collection on different dates,” explained Treasurer Nancy Buck. “I strongly urge taxpayers to review their school tax bills carefully to ensure they are aware of the last day to pay their school taxes.” 

Public Health Shares State's Vaping Advisory

Liberty, NY – The New York State Department of Health has issued a health advisory to inform the public of an emerging health threat related to the use of vape products.

Several cases of severe pulmonary (lung) disease have been reported in NYS among patients who reported recent use of vape products. While detailed information on the reported products used, the name and type of products used, as well as the delivery method are still being investigated, many cases reported the use of tetranydrocannabinol (THC)-containing products, as well as other products.

Local Teen's County Project Leads to Eagle Scout Rank

Liberty, NY – Jeffersonville resident Hunter Mall earned the highest rank in Boy Scouting this month thanks to a project on County property in Liberty. He installed duck houses along the shoreline at the County’s Care Center at Sunset Lake.

Hurleyville, NY – The Woodstock 50th Anniversary is over, but the music, the message, and the songs are alive and well in Sullivan County. And one of the bands keeping that spirit alive is the roots rock and blues group “Yasgur.” 

“Yasgur” is a powerful 4-piece guitar and harmonica-driven band, playing danceable swing, jump and Chicago-style blues. The band covers tunes by Muddy Waters, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, The Grateful Dead, Chuck Berry, and many others.

Then on Sunday, August 25 at 1 p.m., come enjoy a visit with Martha Washington, who will be discussing the Marquis de la Lafayette and his important role in helping the Americans during the Revolutionary War.

Woodstock's 50th a Memorable Success

Bethel, NY – Sullivan County welcomed an estimated 100,000 people to events and activities across the region this past weekend. Looming largest was the 50th anniversary of the famous Woodstock Music and Art Fair, a multi-venue celebration of the Bethel rock festival that impacted the nation and the world.

Fort Delaware Presents Colonial Pub Weekend

Narrowsburg, NY – On August 17 and 18, Fort Delaware will be hosting a Colonial Pub Weekend. Visitors will learn all about the use and importance of taverns during the early days. Taverns and inns were often a place for travelers to find a place to eat and sleep on their ventures. Taverns were also a gathering place for men to discuss business and politics.

On Saturday, August 17, there will be Pub Fare Cooking Demonstrations for guests to learn what colonial travelers ate on their journey. Cooking demonstrations in Dutch and Clay ovens will be held throughout the day.
