Liberty, NY – In light of the ongoing measles outbreaks in New York City and Rockland County, Sullivan County is preparing for the summer months when there is a large influx of visitors and second home-owners.

As of April 11, there are 180 confirmed reported cases of measles in Rockland County. In New York City, there have been 285 confirmed cases since the outbreak began in October 2018; 21 of those cases led to hospitalizations.

Measles is extremely contagious, and about 90% of unvaccinated people exposed to the virus will become infected.

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County is hosting a free first-time Homebuyer Workshop at the Government Center at 100 North Street in Monticello on April 23 from 5:30-7 pm.

This workshop will provide information for those that are interested in learning about programs and resources that would help potential buyers purchase their first home.

The workshop will include the benefits of homeownership, tips on qualifying for a conventional mortgage that is affordable, and how to apply for grants and low-interest loans. 

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Legislature today unanimously agreed to maintain their unified four-year terms, rather than staggering terms. The vote was 8-0 against a resolution to stagger terms, with District 3 Legislator Mark McCarthy unable to be in attendance.

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Safety and Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Sullivan County invite the public to an informational meeting about starting a County Animal Rescue Team (CART). The gathering will be held on April 23 from 6-8 p.m. at the Extension Education Center, 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road, Liberty. Representatives from the County, CCE and the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets will be on hand to gauge local interest.

Liberty, NY – On Monday, April 1, the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force arrested Joanne C. Mack, 41, as a fugitive from justice. Mack is wanted  under the alias of Joanne Price in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for violation of probation, on an original charge of Theft by Deception – False Impression. Mack is also wanted by Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Police for Fraud.

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County is accepting applications from property owners seeking to be included in New York State Agricultural Districts 1 and 4, for a 30-day window beginning April 1 and ending April 30.

Liberty, NY – Reflecting a merger of services, the Sullivan County Department of Community Services is now the Department of Community Services – Behavioral Health Clinic.

“The new name was chosen by County employees who work in the Department,” explained Community Services Director Melissa Stickle. “It better encompasses the entirety of what we do.”
