Plenty to Enjoy at County Museum

Hurleyville, NY – The First Sunday Music and History Program began a year and a half ago, in a small side gallery of the Sullivan County Museum. The Sullivan County Historical Society and the County invited some special guitarists who performed ‘60s music and talked about their personal experiences in the Woodstock. By the third month, First Sunday had become so successful that it moved to the Museum’s main auditorium.

Pine Kill Road to Close for Five Months

Westbrookville, NY – The Sullivan County Division of Public Works is closing a portion of Pine Kill Road in the Town of Mamakating to replace County Bridge 269. 

County Bridge 269 is located approximately 1.5 miles north of the intersection of David Rhodes Road and Pine Kill Road in Westbrookville.

This section of Pine Kill Road is scheduled to be closed to all traffic starting at 8 a.m., Monday, April 1, and will remain closed for approximately 5 months.

Sullivan Welcomes New Deputy County Manager

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek is pleased to welcome John Liddle as Deputy County Manager. Liddle’s appointment by Potosek was confirmed today by the Legislature, and he will begin on April 1.

“John’s incredible experience, professionalism and collaborative ambition set him apart and will provide Sullivan County with top-notch leadership,” Potosek said. “He’s an innovative thinker, a quick learner and an accomplished veteran of the armed services, both at sea and on land.”

RSVP Fills a Need, But Not Without Help

Monticello, NY – As the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) enters its 46th year of service to Sullivan County’s citizens, it continues to grapple with an ongoing need for drivers and funding.

Drivers Wanted

With more requests than the current crop of volunteers can fulfill, RSVP Project Director Caryn Mathews is urgently seeking additional drivers to take local senior citizens to crucial medical appointments.

Two Measles Cases Confirmed

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Public Health Department has been notified of two positive cases of measles in Sullivan County residents.

•           The individuals are considered to have been contagious from March 4, 2019 to March 12, 2019. They resided during this time primarily in Sullivan County but did spend time in and travel to Brooklyn, where there is an ongoing measles outbreak.  

Care Center Resident Celebrates 110th Birthday

Liberty, NY – Ruth (Siddons) Grant remembers when her birthday ended up accidentally overlooked, thanks to a relative’s same-day birthday party. But that was 100 years ago – literally – and Monday, February 25, on the occasion of her 110th birthday, no one forgot Ruth.

“I love it!” she gasped as balloons and a cake were presented to her at the Care Center at Sunset Lake, the County-run facility where she resides.
