Public Comment Wanted on Hazard Mitigation Plan

Monticello, NY – Did you know that Sullivan County recorded over $6.6 million in damages from floods between 1996 and 2018? Add in around another half-million dollars if you include hurricane damages.

“Flooding is our #1 natural hazard, but it’s not the only one, which is why we have been utilizing FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Plan process for the past two decades,” explains Rick Sauer, Sullivan County’s Public Safety Commissioner. “Now we’re updating it, and we want public input on what we call our ‘Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan’.”

HEAP Season Has Arrived

Liberty, NY – The 2020-2021 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) season is here.

“HEAP’s Regular component – offering a one-time payment to help buy fuel to heat a home – begins Monday, November 2,” notes Sullivan County Director of Temporary Assistance Giselle Steketee. “The Heating Equipment Repair & Replacement (HERR) and the Heating Equipment Clean & Tune (C&T) components have already begun. They provide funding to have trained professionals inspect, service and even replace furnaces, boilers, stoves and other heating equipment.”

Move Sullivan Expanding Route, Adding Fare on November 2

Monticello, NY – Move Sullivan, Sullivan County’s year-old public transportation system, is about to take the next step forward.

“Thanks to the support of this Legislature, Move Sullivan buses have continued running throughout the pandemic, and I’m pleased to announce that, starting November 2, the routes will be expanded to meet public demand,” County Manager Josh Potosek explained.

Care Center Welcomes New Administrator

Liberty, NY – Sullivan County Division of Health & Family Services Commissioner Stephanie Brown is pleased to introduce Burt Kohn as the new Administrator of the Care Center at Sunset Lake. An experienced nursing home administrator, he started today, October 26. 

“A seasoned leader, Mr. Kohn brings with him many years of administrative service in hospital-based, corporate and privately-owned nursing homes, overseeing facilities with more than 200 staff during that time,” Brown stated. “I welcome his professional and capable leadership.”
