Monticello, NY – This time of year, the Sullivan County Legislature commences accepting applications for the Legislative Discretionary Contract Program, intended for not-for-profit agencies seeking legislative funding. But this is no ordinary year.

Monticello, NY – By an 8-1 vote, legislators today agreed to transfer the Care Center at Sunset Lake to the Sunset Lake Local Development Corporation (LDC), the first step in a process to lease the 146-bed long-term care and short-term rehabilitation facility to a private operator while retaining County control and oversight. District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez cast the dissenting vote.

Roscoe, NY – Sullivan County Public Health Services is alerting anyone who attended a private family picnic at the Roscoe Firemen’s Field on Saturday, July 25, that they may have been exposed to COVID-19 (2019 Novel Coronavirus).

“We just received the test results today, confirming the individual was contagious starting around July 24,” explained Public Health Director Nancy McGraw. “They are currently under quarantine.”

Monticello, NY – If you haven’t yet completed the 2020 Census form for your Sullivan County address, expect a knock on your door from a Census worker in a few weeks. Non-Response Follow Up, where Census Bureau employees go door-to-door for households that haven’t self-responded through one of the three methods available (online, phone, or paper), is slated to begin the second week of August.

Monticello, NY – For a 30-day window beginning August 1 and ending August 31, 2020, Sullivan County is accepting applications from property owners seeking to be included in New York State Agricultural Districts 1 and 4. 

Liberty, NY – Public Assistance (PA) applicants now have an additional option for applying for initial eligibility for PA.

The E-2921 application form can be filled out at https://mybenefits.ny.gov, or applicants can also apply by filing a paper version of the 2921 application and mailing it in to the Sullivan County Department of Family Services (DFS) at 16 Community Lane, Liberty, NY 12754, or dropping it off at one of the DFS drop boxes located at the DFS office or the Sullivan County Career Center at 50 North Street, Monticello.

Bethel, NY – Lake Superior State Park in Bethel, operated by Sullivan County, will temporarily close for the July 25 weekend, starting the evening of Friday, July 24 and running through the morning of Monday, July 27.

The parking lot, swimming beach, dock area and boat launch will all be closed, with regular patrols to ensure compliance.
