Seniors Invited to Human Rights and RSVP Info Lunch

Glen Spey, NY – The Lumberland Senior Group will be having a “Meet and Greet” for Town of Lumberland seniors on May 3, 2022 at noon at the Lumberland Senior Center located at the Lumberland Town Hall, 1054 Proctor Road, Glen Spey. 

This is an opportunity for seniors in the Lumberland community to meet with other seniors and hear about activities and events occurring in the community. A light lunch will be served, so they ask that seniors wishing to participate please call Sheila Hocker at (845) 856-1707 to confirm attendance, as space may be limited.

Youth Bureau Offers 2022 Grant Opportunities

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Youth Bureau is now accepting grant applications from organizations which serve children and youth within Sullivan County.

The Youth Bureau receives monies annually from the County and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to fund youth development programs within Sullivan County. Eligible applicants include private nonprofit organizations, schools and municipalities.

Legislature Enacts Tuition-Free Scholarship at SUNY Sullivan

Loch Sheldrake, NY - To encourage college enrollment after high school and improve the personal and community and economic well-being of Sullivan County residents, the Sullivan County Legislature voted on April 21 to approve funding for a new tuition-free scholarship program at SUNY Sullivan. The Sullivan Promise Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and fees to Sullivan County 2022 high school graduates for one year of full-time study in a degree program at SUNY Sullivan.

HEAP Cooling Season Is Almost Here

Liberty, NY – Effective May 2, 2022 through August 31 (as funds allow), the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Cooling Assistance Component (CAC) can provide for the purchase and installation of air conditioners or fans. Though certain eligibility requirements still apply, having a certified medical condition is no longer a requirement.

The program will pay up to $800 for the installation of a cooling mechanism in your home (but will not provide any benefit to offset increased utility bills as a result). 

Drug Task Force

The Sullivan County Drug Task Force (also known as the Substance Use Task Force) has been created to improve the lives of those impacted by substance use. Composed of agencies and individuals united in a common cause, its vision is to reduce stigma, protect the vulnerable, coordinate resources based on data-driven needs, initiate and implement prevention and treatment strategies, and support those who protect Sullivan County.

Liberty, NY – In collaboration with Siena College Research Institute, Garnet Health and the Sullivan County Rural Health Network, Sullivan County Public Health is conducting a community health survey from now through May, and every 18+ County resident is invited to participate – in English or Espanol!
