Absentee Voters Have a Choice to Make

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Board of Elections wants voters to know about a recent change in New York State election law that may influence their decision about casting a ballot as an Absentee Voter. This law, which became effective January 1, 2022, will change the ability to vote in person on a voting machine.

In the past, Absentee Voters could change their minds and instead vote in person on a voting machine either during Early Voting or on Election Day.

Legislature Approves $54,100 for Plans & Progress Round 1

The Town of Thompson has been awarded $10,000 in Sullivan County Plans & Progress funding to create public access to the Neversink River near Bridgeville.

Monticello, NY – A total of $54,100 has been awarded to six municipalities, non-profits, and community organizations across Sullivan County through the County’s Plans & Progress Program. This funding will leverage over $110,000 in total project costs.

A Reminder That the Redemption Date for Tax-Foreclosed Properties Is April 30

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck is urging owners to redeem their tax-delinquent properties prior to April 30, 2022.

“We extended the redemption date from January 31 to April 30 to accommodate those struggling in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she explained. “But that means there will be NO repurchase opportunity after that date. After April 30, properties with taxes delinquent from 2020 or earlier will go straight to the tax auction.”

Warming Centers Open Tonight

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County will keep open its two warming shelters tonight in Liberty and Monticello:

  • United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty
  • Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello

These facilities will be open to anyone from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. tonight, Tuesday, March 29 (through tomorrow morning, Wednesday, March 30). PLEASE NOTE: Masks continue to be required. 

Warming Centers Open Sunday and Monday

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County will be opening its two warming shelters on Sunday and Monday in Liberty and Monticello:

  • United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty
  • Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello

These facilities will be open to anyone from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Sunday, March 27 to Monday, March 28 (through the morning of Tuesday, March 29). PLEASE NOTE: Masks continue to be required.
