Get Creative at Our Parks This Summer!

Statement in Response to Call for Cap on Gas Tax

Monticello, NY – District 1 Sullivan County Legislator Robert A. Doherty today released the following statement in response to Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther’s call for Sullivan County to adopt a temporary cap on the taxes it collects on sales of gasoline:

“It is unfortunate that the Assemblywoman does not understand that we are a sales tax-based economy. By cutting that sales tax – even for a temporary period – we are cutting critical revenues during our busiest time of year, which will most assuredly lead to financial hardships for the rest of the year.

Local Jazz, Pop, Rock Guitarist Bringing His Talents to Hurleyville

Hurleyville, NY – “I only had to hear four bars of a song Matthew Albeck was playing on his sexy yellow Fender Strat to know I loved this young man’s music,” said Carol Smith, co-producer of the Sullivan County Cultural Center & Museum’s First Sunday concert series. “He was playing an instrumental song for an appreciative crowd at the Jeffersonville Farm Market. It was a beautiful, lazy Sunday afternoon - the sound of his guitar was mesmerizing”.

Social Services Offices to Temporarily Close Monday

Liberty, NY – Part of Sullivan County’s social services complex in Liberty will briefly close to the public this Monday afternoon, June 13, in order for employees to complete required training.

“Our entire staff must participate in this training at the same time,” explained Health & Human Services Commissioner John Liddle, “so from 1 p.m. on, we will not be open at Social Services or Community Services. We truly regret any inconvenience to the public.”

RSVP Welcomes DVAA as New Volunteer Station

The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance’s largest volunteer effort is Riverfest, held in Narrowsburg each July.

Narrowsburg, NY – Sullivan County’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is excited to announce a new volunteer station in southwestern Sullivan County: the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) in Narrowsburg.

“RSVP hasn’t added a volunteer station in that part of the County for many years, so I’m delighted we’ve worked out an agreement with the DVAA that expands on both our missions,” noted RSVP Coordinator Martha Tully.
